Ariano's for Pizza!

Mmmm -few restaurants have a real, wood-only fired pizza oven, and Ariano's, in Mahopac, NY, is one of them. Their pizzas are amazing and bake in literally about three minutes (that's a hot oven!!!). They also make bread for the table about as fast - it's always hot and amazing, with a garlic and oil dipping sauce that's redolent of fresh oregano, lots of cracked black pepper, peperoncino (red pepper flakes), and minced garlic. It's deliciously fragant without being overwhelming, and complements the fresh bread perfectly. A little drizzle on your pizza doesn't hurt, either!
Rob's custom pizza - gorgonzola cheese, sausage, and sun-dried tomato - was a real winner! My own option, thin scallopine di vitello con rabetini (veal scallopine with baby broccoli rabe) was also perfectly done and mouth watering! Another nice touch at Ariano's is a perfectly chilled side salad. All in all, a great place for light and flavorful Italian food in southern Putnam County!
